Shhhh... Testing in Progress

A garden-growing, pest control-spraying, novel-writing, violin-teaching, homestead-experimenting, talent-developing, homeschooling, learning as we go, and enjoying the motorcycle-riding journey kind of family...

Procrastinating...

I'm procrastinating my posts because there are so many to add...
I guess I can't fight the inevitable...
Better just do it...
Later.
Something just came up.

Around the Site

I find that most of the time, I catch people in awkward positions, or places of amazement
(because I wouldn't be caught up there if my life depended on it!)
Heidi never ceases to amaze me - how she can get up so high and work up there.
I'd freeze from fear.
(You Rock, Heidi!)

It's always windy in Saratoga Springs, which usually means little friends tumble by on their way.

Who knew we have tumbleweed homes?!

Power boxes were put in.
Above is house #3.
And Lot 2's garage cement got poured.
Here are the walls for house #2 before they got put upright.
And that's the floor that Dane and I helped build!
(go us!)

Lot 2 Basement Views

So, this is a while back.
But here is basement #2 once the floor was done...

And Debany in house three's window well!
(I guess she's waiting for help out of there, because she can't do it without it.)

Rain + Construction = MESS

First of all --
I despise this picture of me...
(just look at the lower half, pleeeease...)

How will I ever get these clean again?!

Sharing with Porter...

(stock picture, not my kids...)

Dessert on Sunday was cookies!!!

Mommy finished hers, but forgot to pour milk. So, milk all around and the kids got to dip their cookie in their milk.

Debany decides to share a bite of her cookie that was dipped in milk. "Thank you, Debany!" Says mommy.
Porter decides to do the same (definitely a tinier bite). "Here you go, Mommy!" Says Porter. "Thank you, Porter." With Mommy expecting a 'you're welcome'...

... instead she gets, "You're a pig!"

Out of the mouth of babes, eh?

Holy Flying Buttresses Batman!!

Our First House's Flying Trusses

Getting the house ready for trusses by finishing up all the "little" things

Good thing they strengthened and secured those walls!!!
(Fun picture - love the clouds in the back)
-- Oh, and you're doing a great job, too, Mont! --

The crane's ... thingy.
(real descriptive, Jenn. way to go.
It must be getting late.)

The Layout
(must make all the difference)
it begins...
(yeah, I couldn't do that...)

In sequence:
(next 3)

Lots of pictures --
just wanted to make sure I got everyone that was working the trusses...

Look at those trusses flying!!!
(Where's the net?! Such death-defying feats!!!
They should all join the circus!)
Whole lotta nailing going on.
Kind of hard to see, but that truck is up off the ground!
Nathan kept his record... 2 hours!

I think we're hoping to break the record with the next house -
it's supposed to be a lot easier than Lot 1's trusses.
Maybe we should throw a party if we break the record...
just saying.

BUT -- It's actually looking like a house!

Lot 2 Floor DONE!

Sawing and...
Gluing and...
Dropping boards and nailing...
Oh yeah, and I got to do the blocking again.
(Being the first day back to work since injury, started slow. But I got 'er done.)

This shot just looked too... _____ to pass up.
Working on Lot 2 flooring...
Once we got going, the sheathing/sheeting FLEW!
Gotta say: Mike was a BIG help!
Look at those guys measuring and all that stuff.

Injured Onsite

I got tagged out...
Thursday, 2:15 pm
While holding a floor joist and nailing in a board with a power nailer,
my finger was dangling on the other side while I was holding the rest in place.
The nail went through 3 boards and my glove and tagged my finger.
(You're it!)
Sure glad I know first aid - pretty scary bleeding all over.
Very blessed though...
no stitches, no bone fractures
still have feeling in my fingers
just a sore shoulder from a tetanus shot.
(And Saratoga Springs medical clinic is VERY fast and friendly. I love the country feel of our city-to-be.)

Working @ Night

I couldn't get a good (enough) picture, but here Dane was sawing off a metal bolt...
sparks were flying EVERYWHERE!!!
Cool and scary all at the same time.
working by headlamp...
(watch out for window wells)
This has got to be one of my favorite pictures.
I totally makes you feel like we're building out in the middle of nowhere, doesn't it?!
and what a cool night picture... just love it.

What's the Motto?!

Nothing! What's the motto with you?!
(JK)

Okay from day 1, our motto was
"No more pretty hammers"
(after day one)
-- sniff sniff --
*where have all the pretty little hammers gone?*

VOTE!

I went in to vote right at the last minute because of working on the house on Tuesday.
Because I was the last one, they let me take some stickers home to the kids...
a WHOLE sheet!
(of course I saw this as a picture opportunity!)

(I love this smile of Porter's!!)
