Random, but it's a post!!

So, this morning Dane says, "I want dough-knots!"
(This is a family recipe from his Dad.)
And we have to be at church in 45 minutes... hmmm.
Well, I tried to come up with a better time to make them, but to no avail, we made them.
The last time we had them was over Christmas - about 6 months ago...
Which is about how often we have homemade cinnamon rolls - so how can I say no?!
Dane tells me to get out the pancake mix (which he uses to make EVERYTHING - another post).
I say - it'll take as much time to put that together and figure out the texture as I need to put together a biscuit mix. So I do it.  Besides there's time for the oil to heat up.
Well, Dane fries them up. We sit down to eat.
We take a bite....

And I think I pretty much mutilated my in-laws' recipe.
I made biscuits just like normal.  They turn out great.
But I think we needed to cut out some of the shortening, or something.
Because they were pure OIL.  Blah!
I'm sure his Dad is giggling right now.. :)
Okay, we ate and they tasted great, but did I feel AWFUL after!
And Dane felt the same.

So I agreed with Dane, we should've used the pancake mix.
(But I never would've admitted that until after I TOTALLY failed.
And that I did.)

So... good thing his Dad is coming this week.
Now we can learn how to make dough-knots the RIGHT way!
(And I can get out of using pancake mix!

-- okay, I don't have anything against using pancake mix.  And it's great that you can use it for EVERYTHING and a GREAT thing to have on hand for storage if you use it.  BUT I'm sure Dane already has 100 things on his list of "I can make this with Pancake Mix"... How can I have that?  Especially when I can make a lot of it from scratch!  *wink wink*
