Looking for some fun things to do with the girls (at familyfun.com) I had an idea come to mind. It was a yummy treat that I remember from my childhood!
And since it was Spring, and all the birds are out, I decided we should learn about (and make our very own edible) birdnests.
So, on our walk, we looked up and down and all around for birds' nests. We saw one at the playground (picture above). See it there? We also found two on the way to the grocery store. Interesting what you can find when you change what you're looking for!
Last year, we got some first-person experience with robins making their nest, laying their eggs, and the baby birds hatching & growing. (See Triplets in 2008)
This year, we got to make our own!
These books were perfect for their age and information about birds and their nests. Best part being that they were free (ie. from the library).
Amazing what some chowmein noodles and some melted chocolate can become!
Remove the wax paper after the chocolate has hardened in the fridge.
Then add some eggs!
(my favorite: Cadbury's Mini eggs --- melts in your mouth.)
Then add your birds --- Peeps are perfect (if you like them).
Once you're done...
Don't forget to make this educational!!
We practiced writing down some words from the books we read.
And Myanna so willingly donated her 'haircut' scraps to help the birds make their nests.
(Because mom was too 'cheep' to let them use her yarn from her crochet projects.)
After all this hard work, we finally get to reap the rewards!
